Guatemala is located in Central America. It borders the countries of Belize, El Salvador, Mexico, and Honduras. It also borders the Gulf of Honduras or the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
Guatemala has tropical climate. It is humid in the lowlands and cooler in the highlands. Guatemala is covered in mountains, narrow coastal plains, and a limestone plateau. Guatemala has many natural resources including petroleum, rare woods, nickel, fish, hydro-power, and chicle. Chicle is a gum-like substance found in tropical trees including the sapodilla. Chicle is used to make chewing gum.
Volcanoes are a major natural hazards to Guatemala. They have a few violent earthquakes. The part of Guatemala that borders the Caribbean Sea is also prone to have hurricanes and other tropical storms.
